It was poor morning in October 2007 when I first time put Ubuntu CD in my DVD-ROM. After a while I saw a nice-looking brown desktop. I liked it and decided to install. From that day it is my OS. Ubuntu is very nice, stable, fast, flexible and curious:) This system is great and I can do on it and with it almost everything. Two days ago I upgrade to new version - 8.04. And this is even more friendly user and easy to use. Almost everything makes automatically and works fine. This is really Linux for human beings. Great OS. I recommend it everybody.

I had been reading all the hype about Ubuntu on Digg.com and finally decided to take the jump in and never looked back.

i was tired of BSOD, so i begin to seek for other O.S, i read about linux, so i had the idea that it was not for "normal" people (somelike "just for hackers" ) by the magic hand of luck some day in a house i saw a cd that said "ubuntu linux for HUMAN BEINGS", then seeking for that Ubuntu i installed it and now its my only OS in my laptop, just good things since that day, greetings from Chile. After hearing a little about Linux and Free Systems in general, I began looking around for a good distribution. I had heard a thing or two about Red Hat, but decided I wasn't ready. A few weeks later, a friend of mine told me about Ubuntu and gave me a CD. I tried it, and have been in love ever since. Ubuntu's stability, security, appearance, simplicity, have astounded me, and since then, I've never looked back.

Fascinated in Linux I installed Mandrake in 2002. Learning how to use the system was very difficult for me since I didn't have any friends with linux and I had only expensive dial-up Internet connection. Since then I tried Mandriva, PLD, Fedora with long periods of using Windows as primary OS. Most of distros seemed to me to be to difficult to configure properly and didn't work well with my hardware. About a year ago I decided to try Linux once more and installed Kubuntu. I was surprised how that it worked on my laptop almost out of the box without searching for drivers and ways how to guess configuration flags. Still some minor issues aren't handled properly but in comparison to other systems it is still the best choice for me. I finished my studies with it, used free software to do research for my academy and now I'm using it for entertiment and my hobbies - photography and programming. I am happy that I don't have to worry about software licences when I go to ship with my laptop.

Now I don't have previous enthusiasm to spend hours learning how to configure system, compile kernel etc. Operating system for me is just a tool which should be user friendly, not offence my inteligence and just simply work. (K)Ubuntu seems to be just what I need - based on super-stable debian but better for non-IT specialist and for desktop use.

I love the idea of open source. It feels like I am moving out of my parents house into the woods. But then me and more people then I can image get together and we build a mansion overlooking our parents shacks.

I started because I was curious, and I came back for the community. A very impressive alternative to the commercial OSs.

Here's my story,

My story is more a Linux story, but since I primarily use Ubuntu I feel it fits here.

I use to steal software. I use to still a lot of software. In fact, I was pretty much becoming a librarian of stolen software and software keys. I had cd books full of every freaking type of software I could get my hands on. I would peruse IRC channels, Forums and crappy warez sites for the latest and greatest in warez software.

Then I found Linux.

I now don't steal software anymore. I threw out all my stolen software and I only use GPL and Free software for personal use. I don't have to worry about anyone busting down the door just because I don't want to pay for software.

I installed Ubuntu on my grandfathers(78) computer. I was a bit worried, because grandpa used DOS, and Windows all his life. But he loves it! He uses computer on everyday basis, and has no problems with e-mails, surfing the internet, writing documents etc. So - even if you are older, and not very good with computers - give it a try, it's worth it!

After Windows died on me for the umpteenth time I decided to give Ubuntu a go. After getting over the (relatively small) learning curve I was very impressed. I continue to be amazed by the power and usability of Linux, compared to Windows, and I've even managed to learn some super powerful command line tools without even trying.

My turning point came when Vista came around. I felt that Microsoft's grip was getting tighter on me. I had to break free, so I took the courage and I installed Ubuntu 7.4. That was the best decision I have ever made. Finally I had "THE OPERATIVE SYSTEM" I had waited all my life. I love the comradeship amongst its members who are always eager to help. It is a fantastic sensation. Thank to all those people who gave their time and resources to make this dream come true. Linux is not just an operative system, Linux is about freedom. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I started out with Ubuntu 2 years ago, when I was told it was an alternative to buying Windows Vista for all those fancy graphics. I quickly found out it was much, much more at a price you couldn't beat - free! The community was one of the best I had ever been in; open and willing to help even with the smallest of questions. It also allowed my computer to be more flexible in both how much resources it used and how it looked. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who has hardware that works with it.

Gave it a try in the summer of 2007, and for me, it was simply better than Windows. Still sticking with it almost a year later, and am quite happy - in the few times that I have to use Windows I actually find it to be less user-friendly, stable, and as nice as Ubuntu.

I tried Ubuntu out of curiosity just to see what Linux can do for me and it´s been hard to go back to Windows ever since. It fast, sleek, and absolutely reliable!

Linux is freedom. It changes the way you look at things. You can even feel a sort of comradery with other users you have never met.

I've switched to Ubuntu about 2 years ago and now I just can't go back. With every release my system is working faster and more stable. Ubuntu linux is all what I need from a operating system.

Try it too!
