Mi primer contacto con Ubuntu Linux fue en el 2004 con Warty Warthog, inicialmente buscando una alternativa para realizar una instalacion simple y con la estabilidad de debian, fue casual el encuentro, pero desde que lo probe la primera vez, a pesar de los defectos que aun cargaba en si, me parecio que era una Distribucion ideal para seguirla, y bueno, hasta ahora creo que gane al pensar y coniar que esta Distribucion iba a ser la que se quedaria permanentemente en mi equipo.
Gracias a todos los que han colaborado para realizar Ubuntu y hacer la Distro que ahora disfrutamos.

Por el año 2004, un amigo me acerco un cd de Ubuntu 4.10 y me expresó cuan contento estaba de haber encontrado un sistema operativo asi. Yo hacia poco que empezaba a usar Linux y decidi a probarlo. Desde ese momento no me separe mas. Lo uso en casa, en el trabajo migramos los Desktop a Ubuntu y tambien lo uso en los servidores. Quizas sea el diseño, o la facilidad para utilizarlo... o quizás sea su estabilidad y su extenso repositorio...
Cuando se anuncia la proximidad del lanzamiento de la nueva versión estoy expectante... esperando con que nos va a asombrar como lo hace con cada release que se lanza...
Ya son muchos los que he logrado que utilicen Linux y en especial este maravilloso sistema operativo... y nadie ha vuelto atrás...

Kiedyś w pracy kolega podarował mi Knoppixa rok przeleżał w szufladzie zanim go uruchomiłem, system spodobał mi się i zacząłem rozglądać się za Linuxem którego będę mógł zainstalować na dysku, trafiłem na UBUNTU 7.05 dziś nie wyobrażam sobie komputera bez POTĘGI UBUNTU.

I installed Ubuntu two years ago. The primary reason to install Ubuntu was to get rid of proprietary MS Windows OS. Like every one else, I had difficulty getting used to a new computing environment. But then I started loving Ubuntu for its security, stability, easiness, visual appeal and productivity. Ubuntu improved the quality of my work as a blogger and writer. Now I don't worry about configuring my system, removing spyware or combating with viruses and trojans and I can spend more time on my actual work.
Since I write in both English and Urdu Languages. Ubuntu is the best choice as it has the best Urdu support available. It has fonts, keyboard layouts, right to left directional support and better font rendering. And I can install Urdu support by simply downloading one meta package. Urdu support alone was quite an strong reason for me to dump MS Windows.
Ubuntu also brought me closer to people who worked as a community to promote the usage of free and open source software. I made new friends and this provided me a better understanding of software freedom and provided me an opportunity to be a part of this wonderful community.

No soy informático pero sà soy el 'amiguete' que siempre arregla y cada año formatea el Windows de amigos y conocidos, y soluciona el más mÃnimo (y frecuente) problemilla que le surja a cualesquiera de los pertenecientes a mi nutrido grupo de 'allegados' sufridores de las 'ventanas cerradas'; y bien a gusto que lo hago siempre que puedo, por el simple sentido de contribuir humilde y domésticamente al desarrollo de mi gente.
Conocà GNU/Linux en Extremadura (España), a través de LÃnex, en un curso de la Administración, y conocÃ, sobre todo, lo que quiere decir 'software libre': no cabe duda, GNU/Linux, o cualquier otro software abierto, es el auténtico futuro en un mercado verdaderamente libre, universal, actual y más justo, frente al medievalismo monopolÃstico, gremial y fácilmente corrompedor y corrompible de los sitemas propietarios (pese a que algunos voceros de estos gremios traten de vender el fabuloso engaño de que software libre es sinónimo de decadente comunismo, o algo asÃ)
Ubuntu es una bendición que mejora y sorprende dÃa a dÃa, versión a versión. Cuando empecé hace año y pico a usarlo, todavÃa esporádicamente y con mi PC con arranque dual, tuve algunos problemas que, al principio, me desconcertaban... hasta que me di cuenta de que Windows tiene incomparablemente muchÃsimos más, sólo que estamos tan acostumbrados a ellos que nos parecen 'naturales' y siempre hay alguien a mano que nos da una pista de cómo solucionarlos (o nos lo soluciona). Feisty me sedujo, abandoné prácticamente las 'ventanas cerradas', Gutsy me convención del todo, abandoné el arranque dual para siempre y, por necesidades del trabajo, ya sólo tuve que usar Windows virtualizado. Ahora estoy disfrutando de lo lindo con Hardy. Va como la seda y es fantástico; casi ningún problema... y ¡es tan fácil encontrar soluciones en la red para la más mÃnima dificultad! o simplemente esperar a que en un par de semanas haya disponible una actualización... a todo el mundo recomiendo que se cambie a Ubuntu, por fiabilidad, seguridad, versatilidad, gratuidad, una posibilidad infinita de soluciones de software... y porque es más ético, más libre, más justo, más fiable, más seguro (infinitamente más seguro), más adaptable, mucho más rápido en su evolución y muchÃsimo más fácil de usar que Windows con versiones como Hardy.

Old machine will start only with choke...
One of my colleagues gave me a prehistoric IBM Thinkpad 770E notebook - the very first "notebook" of my life. It is really arrived from prehistoric times, the BIOS date is from 1999, the hardware specs are the following:
- PII 266 MHz
- 160 MB RAM (it is the official maximum limit)
- DVD-ROM reader (instead of floppy drive)
- 20 GB HDD (it is also a newer part)
- 56 Kbps modem
- PCMCIA ethernet
- supposedly there are 2 USB connections available, althoug I saw only one.

Recently I spend more and more times with Linux, so I've decided to use an Ubuntu-spawn. I have Windows on my desktop machine and I didn't want to spend a day with installing XP...
Ubuntu's basic window manager is GNOME but I thought that the available amount of memory can be too less and this is the reason, why I also dropped Kubuntu because it requires more amount of memory than GNOME. The possible alternatives were Fluxbuntu and Xubuntu. Flux was not so nice for me (I believe that it can be so customized) and I translated an article from Full Circle Issue 3, so I've decided to install Xubuntu 7.04 with alternate install (I've omitted 7.10 because there are a lot of bad experience with this version). Of course - because I was the translator of that article - I made awful mistakes with great success.
I remembered that I have some Xubuntu iso-s on DVD; fine, I have a Desktop and an Alternative also... of course for x86-64 platform, so I went to Xubuntu's homepage. First I've downloaded the Desktop iso and burnt onto a rewritable CD because the CD is required only for installing, after then I will download everything from the Internet. The machine is booting from the CD... Khmmhmm... where is the text-mode install??? I opened the Full Circle - of course I've downloaded the wrong iso. Ok, let's go with the LiveCD. I had a coffee and a smoke while I have the desktop. Ok, now there is the Install icon, doubleclick... I did a doubleclick... Achso, so have U received the signal? Nice :) I went through until the partitioning. The previous system was a TinyMe Linux with 2 pieces of 8 GB partitions; I do not need these, so use the whole disk. After killing of the first partition, I had an error message, that the partition table is not readable... Ahha, understand... or don't because the previous system worked properly. Well, I couldn't bypass this, so I've tried a different one.
I've burnt the Alternate iso to the CD, the machine have booted and more, I could step over the partitioning screen. The base system installation began... and it stopped around 82% with the message that the base kernel image couldn't be installed... Thanks, it's nice. After the reboot I was asked about which kernel image should be installed. I've choosen the latest one and the installation goes on... until the installation of applications, where there was another defective file. Fascinating, now it is around 22:00 CET and I didn't make any progress. Reboot, I've selected the Checksum of the CD, error at 99%. Okay, continue on tomorrow.
On the next day I've downloaded a PCLinuxOS2007HU system, because the TinyMe is a PCLinux-clone; I assume that if TinyMe had worked, then it will also. That's too bad that the theory and the pragmatics are not the same - as I experienced. Booting from CD, LiveCD selected, the screen went black... It was a long-time black, so it became doubtful; I pressed the DVD's door opening button and after some noise, it has been opened. Nice, so the system didn't do anything otherwise I couldn't open the door... Ok, let's have a closer look of the CD. At the edge of the disc, I have seen a lot of scratches. I replaced the CD, burnt Xubuntu 7.04 Alternate iso, CD-checksum ok, installation goes over without error. At the end of the setup, the DVD door had been opened to don’t let the disc in - although there is an option on the CD's menu to boot from harddisk.
I don't have experience with the newer Thinkpads but I explicitly dare to say that these kind of old machines are not desultory nerve-patient... The machine starting leisurely and then the Xubuntu bootsplash is shown. Little red joystick is working perfectly without any magic, I've logged on and the Ubuntu + Xfce combo is shown to me as Xubuntu. I have four virtual desktop, filesystem and home icon on the desktop, menu is upper left, thrash is lower right - as I like :)
Ok, let's have some customizing: Mailchecker to the tray, Weather forecast isn't work, Gaim icon went also to the tray with a CPU-load display. Ok, but it is not the whole system monitoring, let's have a search. On a hungarian forum it was recommended to install Conky. Nice, good and fully customizable... but the Conky's display is flashing. There is an option in the configfile but it didn't help.
Before I've deinstalled Conky, I've checked the values: 92.5/160 MB of RAM used with 50/455 MB of swap with Conky, 2 terminals and a FF window. Very good...
At the booting stage, the system is a little bit slow but after the desktop is shown, the usage of it is smooth. Of course, the speed is not comperable to a modern system because if CPU and memory limitations... but I use it gladly and it is available for translations and for blogging.

Hace un par de años yo básicamente solo usaba un sistema propietario y cerrado muy famoso. Entonces escuché de las bondades de Ubuntu y decidà darle una oportunidad. Al principio todo me parecÃa distinto y me costaba hacer las cosas habituales. Al poco tiempo le fui cogiendo práctica y me di cuenta de lo fácil y seguro que es un sistema GNU/Linux. Ahora no puedo usar otra cosa ya que cuando me ponen delante un ordenador con el otro sistema pienso en lo tosco e inseguro que es y solo me sale la frase "esto con ubuntu se hace más fácil". Ademas el mito de que Linux es difÃcil con Ubuntu es falso, aquà no hay que sufrir por virus, instalar programas piratas o incluso activar copias legales. Todo se hace desde los repositorios y no hay que andar buscando entre decenas de CD's los drivers y demás programas.

Ubuntu zainstalowałam z ciekawości i z frustracji do restartujacego się XP.
Z początku było trochę trudno przestawić się na inny system ale trwało to krótko bo od razu wiedziałam że system mi sie podoba o wiele bardziej niż Windows który stwarzał same problemy. Do dzisiaj mam na tym samym dysku zainstalowanego Windowsa XP ale niestety jak uruchomię swój laptop z XP to system ciągle sie resetuje, jak uruchomię z Ubuntu wszystko działa swietnie.
Tak więc praktycznie pracuję tylko na Ubuntu z Gnome. Polubiłam go za czytelność menu, compiza pomagającego mi zachować porządek na pulpicie, coraz większą z wersji na wersję łatwość obsługi i administrowania systemem a także za wine które pozwala mi używać programów do nauki języka np. Profesor Henry i innych jak np. PIT-y firmy IPS.
Polecam ten system wszystkim nawet tym mniej zaawansowanym bo z tego co widzę u moich znajomych których namówiłam na ten właśnie system to wszyscy mówią że już na windows nie wrócą :) ja też :)

Moja przygoda z Ubuntu rozpoczęła się po tym jak mój komputer zaczął się bez powodu restartować. Postanowiłem coś z tym zrobić. Mimo iż słyszałem wiele nieprzychylnych opinii o Linuksie zaryzykowałem "przesiadkę" na ten system. Przyznam, że wybór na Ubuntu padł nie do końca świadomie, jednak z perspektywy czasu mogę powiedzieć, że był to wybór dobry.
Jeszcze przed instalacją, gdy uruchomiłem Ubuntu z płyty LiveCD moją uwagę przykuły znakomite efekty graficzne, jak się później okazało używające jedynie ułamka mocy procesora. Przyznam, że trochę obawiałem się czy Linux wykryje poprawnie mój sprzęt. Gdy jednak bez problemu udało mi się zainstalować Neostradę byłem już dobrej myśli.
Pozostał problem aplikacjiktórych używałem na Windowsie. Tu również byłem miło zaskoczony. Większość programów potrzebnych mi do pracy była już zainstalowana w systemie. Niektóre odpowiedniki aplikacji z Windowsa są nawet lepsze niż ich pierwowzory :).
Teraz już wiem, że Ubuntu to system który najbardziej mi odpowiada i czuje się z nim dobrze, już nawet nie pamiętam co to wirus... :)

Diseñe, desarrolle y puse en marcha, hace 20 años, un canal de television en UHF que transmite para todo el territorio de Costa Rica, 24 horas diarias, siempre hemos utilizado Mc para nuestros sistemas de posproduccion en audio y video, pero poco a poco nos fuimos dando cuenta que como sistema operativo, ademas de costoso, comenzaba a ser deficiente para nuestras necesidades. Varias veces me recomendaron Linux pero no habia experimentado, en parte por el temor a lo desconocido , pero hace algun tiempo me decidi y me llamo la atencion UBUNTU, asi que decidi experimentar en mi PC personal y lo instale,el resultado es que estoy feliz y ya en el canal estamos reemplazando gradualmente a Mac OS X.

Descubrà Ubuntu hace 2 años, y me ha maravillado, he tenido que dejar de buscar craks, seriales, y piratear sistemas, ahora mismo mi sistema es completamente legal.
Pero sobre todo tengo todas las aplicaciones que quiera instaladas o no, juntas y organizadas por temas a un click de instalar y configurar.
Simplemente Excelente, ahora solo queda que openoffice reproduzca correctamente los "ppt de gatitos con música", asà mi mujer no se quejara ;-)

Mis necesidades informáticas son las del usuario medio: navegar, bajar y reproducir pelÃculas y música, enviar y recibir correo, chatear por mensajerÃa instantánea, escribir documentos... Empecé a usar Ubuntu hace ya tres años y cubre tan bien esas necesidades que nunca he echado de menos el sistema que usaba antes. De hecho estoy tan satisfecho con él que se lo he recomendado a mi familia y amigos, y los que se han atrevido a dar el salto hoy me lo agradecen.
Hay dos tipos de personas a las que, de momento, no se lo recomiendo: los que usan su PC para jugar (ya que la mayorÃa de juegos están desarrollados para Windows y hacerlos funcionar en Ubuntu puede ser difÃcil) y los que usan profesionalmente algún programa muy especializado que no tenga equivalente en Ubuntu. Para el resto de la gente, Ubuntu es una opción rápida, segura y agradable de usar.

Desde la primera vez que vi Ubuntu quede maravillado. Comenze con Ubuntu 6.10 y en un principio tube complicaciones con la configuracion a internet, pero la gran comunidad no dudo en ayudarme y pude solucionarlo rapidamente y desde entonces soy un fiel Ubuntero. Lo recomiendo a todos, desde la persona que por primera vez se sienta frente a un computador hasta los mas avanzados y les prometo que no se arrepentiran. Un saludo grande a todos los Ubunteros y Linuxeros del mundo en especial de Chile, mi pais.

Yo me inicié en el mundo linux gracias a una revista de computación muy buena. En ese entonces no existÃa Ubuntu. Estaban Red Hat, Mandrake y Suse (ésta última era la que más amigable con el usuario parecÃa) y me decanté por Suse. Debo admitir que no duré más que unos momento con Suse debido a que no me convenció mucho y además me presentó demasiados problemas.
El gran paso lo di hace casi un año. Cuando, debido a exigencias de la universidad, tuve que adquirir una laptop. Por fin!! una computadora totalmente personal en la que podÃa poner lo que quisiera. De las primeras cosas que hice a los pocos dÃas de tener mi laptop fue descargarme la imagen de la última versión de Ubuntu en ese momento: Feisty Fawn. MARAVILLOSO, el sistema me pareció increÃble, el escritorio Gnome me conquistó (personalmente KDE no termina de convercerme) y para terminar con las bendiciones encontré un blog especÃficamente diseñado para resolver los problemas que existÃan con mi lap.
Desde ese entonces amo esta distro y estoy orgulloso de haber "evangelizado" a varios amigos que ahora también usan Ubuntu.
Libertad, legalidad, facilidad y una gran comunidad dispuesta a ayudar. ¡¡Eso es UBUNTU!!

Hace ya mucho tiempo, un dÃa del que ya no tengo muchos recuerdos, encontré en mi escritorio un Cd que decÃa Ubuntu 6.10. ¿como llegó? aún no estoy seguro, creo que se lo regalaron a mi padre.
El cd estuvo meses bajo mi atenta mirada, pero no me sentia capaz de instalarlo.
Un dÃa, llegó el momento de formatear la pc, en ese tiempo usaba el XP, y formatearla era, como hasta ahora, cosa de rutina en windows.
Llego el técnico y fue el momento justo para darle el famoso cd que parecÃa estar esperando desesperadamente que fuera instalado. Listo!
Me instalaron Ubuntu y desde ese dÃa, cada dÃa que pasa realmente me sorprendo mas de este sistema operativo, el 6.10, 7.04, 7.10, 8.04 me traÃa nuevas sorpresas, mi computador se volvio realmente en algo especial, algo en lo que puedo disfrutar cada segundo, y sentirme finalmente dueño absoluto de él.
Ubuntu me cambio la forma de ver mi ordenador, nunca vi tanta versatilidad en un sistema operativo, y nunca sentà tanta seguridad.

Hola, uso Ubuntu desde la primera versión (Warty) y he visto progresar esta distribución y cómo se limaban muchas de las asperezas que tenÃa al principio. De ella han salido otras como Molinux, Guadalinex, GnwSense, UbuntuStudio, etc, etc,... Se ha creado un universo alrededor y una comunidad donde se puede encontrar toda la ayuda que hace falta al principio. Para mà la mejor disto del momento.
Ubuntu conseguirá llegar a mucha gente que no se habÃa planteado salir de la monocultura de otros sistemas propietarios y privativos.
